Code Enforcement

Code Enforcement works to create and maintain a safe, clean living and working environment in the Borough of Wilkinsburg. The main objective of the department is to facilitate voluntary compliance with Borough codes. Code Enforcement aims to address issues of blight and nuisance by working with the responsible parties to correct any violations.

Code inspectors investigate structures and properties in order to ensure compliance with the Borough’s housing, zoning, graphics, health, sanitation, and safety regulations. Court action may be initiated when code violations are not corrected in the allotted time. Code Enforcement currently employs three inspectors and a clerk, who is responsible for managing communications with residents. Sean Gramz is the Code Director.

Code Enforcement deals with issues of:

  • building code
  • zoning
  • property maintenance
  • occupancy permits and tenant registration
  • new construction
  • application to the vacant property program

Some common violations include:

  • overgrown lots or yards
  • inoperable vehicles on public or private property
  • public nuisance
  • conditions of an existing structure that present danger to the public
  • building code violations, including construction or occupancy without permits graffiti
  • any hazardous conditions on private property
  • dumping on private and public properties

Contact Code Enforcement at (412) 244-2923 with inquiries or to report a violation.
