Recyclables are picked up in the Borough every other week on the resident's regular garbage day. For the 2010 calendar of recycling pick-up weeks, please click here (PDF). If you have any questions, please call (412) 244-2900, ext. 101. Please refer to this web site or the Wilkinsburg Sun for specific holiday recycling and trash collection information.
Please place the following recyclables in your tall “newspaper” bin:
- Corrugated cardboard (boxes)
- Mixed paper including office/copier paper, junk mail, magazines, phonebooks, newspaper, flyers, pamphlets, brochures, tablets, booklets
The shorter “cans and bottles” bin can be used for:
- Plastics, numbers 1 through 5 (check the number in the recycling symbol on the bottom)
- Aluminum and steel cans (mostly beverage containers)
- Glass bottles, jugs and jars (no light bulbs, window glass, etc.)
Remember always to place your recyclables away from regular garbage on collection day. Also, please discard all caps and lids from bottles, and please do not include materials other than those listed above. Unaccepted materials contaminate the recycling. Do not place styrofoam out for recycling. Styrofoam should be discarded in your regular garbage.
Once the recyclables are collected, they are separated at a single-stream recycling plant using modern technologies. We hope combined collection will make recycling easier and more convenient for you, as well as increase our total recycling as a Borough. The more we recycle, the more significantly we can reduce our landfill disposal cost.
To obtain curbside recycling bins or for more information, please contact the Borough Manager's office at (412) 244-2900, ext. 101.
