Trees offer invaluable environmental, aesthetic and economic benefits to our community. Trees provide beauty and shade to any property and community space, as well as serving to reduce building energy costs, increase property value, provide wildlife habitat and improve air quality. In a community that has such a close tie to the fragile Nine Mile Run Watershed, shade trees absorb water, reduce flooding and improve the quality of stormwater runoff entering the watershed.
Properly cared for trees will provide many years of aesthetic, environmental, and economic benefits.
Mission Statement
Whereas trees in public spaces are a resource that provide great benefit to people, wildlife and the ecosystem, our mission is to ensure that trees within the Borough of Wilkinsburg are fostered, maintained and planted with due regard for public safety, economy, education and enjoyment.
