Parks and Recreation

In addition to its close proximity to Pittsburgh’s 600-acre Frick Park, Wilkinsburg is fortunate to have around a dozen parks and parklets of its own. Combined with the five School District parks and two recreational areas run by nonprofit organizations, our parks give Wilkinsburg residents ample access to green space for recreation and relaxation.

Wilkinsburg's largest park, Hunter Park, has recently undergone extensive rehabilitation with a $300,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources . Renovations included reconstruction of the baseball field, rehabilitation of basketball courts, installation of bleachers at the baseball field and basketball courts, replacement of playground equipment, and installation of picnic shelters and park benches. The Parks and Recreation Committee is actively seeking grants for renovation of other public parks in Wilkinsburg.
